Garmin Chartplotters with Livescope.

We are always being asked what Garmin Chartplotter will suit them. We get loads of different questions around the Garmin Chartplotter range. We have found some great content from the States that will give you the idea although chart info will be different in Australia. We have tried to go through it really quick and simply. If you have questions please feel free to reach out.  Below we compare the Garmin 8410Garmin 8412GPSMAP 1022, GPSMAP 1222, Garmin Echomap UHD and the Echomap Ultra series.

Let's get into it and jump into current GARMIN Chartplotter models that are out today. You'll see the model numbers across the top line of the chart.

So out of the current 42 Garmin Chartplotter models in that 7 to 9" range Garmin has broken up into 5 series.

 To compare the Garmin Models Visit the Garmin Website

ECOMAP UHD series

You'll see all of the model numbers in the chart. These are 7" and 9"screen sizes either an SV or CV. That would mean for instance there's A92SV or 73CV. These are all the current models that are available. The SV stands for side view the CV stands for clear view.In terms of maps in charts that are available, you'll see the model number of the units list what charts are available -You will need to check Garmin website so you can see which models you may be interested in. You can always check or email us to ask if you are unsure. In terms of sonar support - all of the models that are listed in this series are UHD sonar compatible chirp, clear view. Any of the sv models are also compatible with side view transducers. The current MSRP range all has 400 by 800 display resolution. Touch screen with key assist. They have got the full touch screen and then they've got your "plus and minus buttons" and then 123 and 4 going down the side (for your favorites) so you can jump to specific screens or specific combination screens. The weight of these units is some of the lightest units we're gonna be talking about today 1.7 pounds for any of the 7" 2 .3 pounds for a 9" these are great if you need to be portable with them. In terms of power usage - all of the power usage I have on here is based on having it hooked up to a 12 V system. The amps that you can expect the screen/chart plotter to draw for a 9" screen to draw during a 1 hr time period. Memory card slot They are capable of using Active captain they will not work with helm. Helm is the capability to log you into Active Captian and be able to view from your phone or tablet - These cannot do that. No video out. So you cant hook it up to a TV or screen. They are cradle-mount capable. what I am referring to when I say cradle mount capable is: these units themselves have the hookups for the cords and the cradle and the mount itself so you can easily snap it off to move.

ECHOMAP Ultra Series

So, the next series, the ecomap ultra series comes in the 10-inch 12" screen sizes. They do support all UHD chirp clear view and side view sonar technologies again all of these do support Livescope.These are a step up in display resolution so you've got 1280 by 800 pixels and they do have a touch screen just like the UHD series with the keyed assist on the right-hand side. From a weight perspective, these are heavier so we get 4 pounds for 10 inch, 5.5 pounds for a 12" and you're gonna see here the power draw steps up 2.8 amps per hour. From a weight perspective, these are heavier so we get 4 pounds for attendance so we get 4 pounds for a 10-inch screen by the half pounds for a 12" and you're gonna see here the power draw steps up 2.8 amps per hour on 10-inch screen and 3 amps/h 12-inch screen. Memory card Slots in this series - It has 2 on the front of the unit so again in that flap door Having them stacked, it does allow you to have a dedicated map card and or a dedicated Active Captain card just like the UHD series. Active captain is compatible and it's also NOT capable of using helm or video out however, it does also use the cradle mount. Next up we have the;

On the non xsv - there are no hookups for the sonar on the back. It does support Livescope, but not Sonar technologies.Any that have XSV in the model number, DO support chirp, Clearview and side view.The display resolution 1024 by 600 for 10" screens and 1280 by 800 for the 12" screens. These units do not have a touch screen these are keyed-only units. From a weight standpoint 4.1 lbs a 10", 5.2lbs for a 12" typical power draw at 12 volts. 1.9 amps for 10", 2.2 amps for a 12" Memory Card slots - these also have 2 on the front of the unit behind that front door. These are NOT cradle-mount capable units meaning that what you're seeing on the back is the actual back of the screen this is not a cradle at the screen.
